H tags are emphasis tags - headline tags that increase the size of the text as far as visual layout is concerned and are seen as a focus of what content on page is addressing - use sparingly and h1 is largest and usually should only have 1-2 on a page - they get keywords attention so use them

You can use all H tags when really needed. Do not use it for stuffing keywords.
Use H tags for content section blocks. Think how it helps users not alone for Search Engines. Hint - Use P tag for paragraph, not H tag. |

H1 to H6 is the limit, keyword stuffing is the stop, keywords in H tags over paragraph section blocks for users understanding is a go.

H1 tag is used for Main Heading, each webpage should have one main heading which gives the page discription. H2 , H3, ... can be used depending on the usage of your content, they have little impact on your onpage opt factor. But i think there is no limit.

yes but usually 1 or 2 H1 and 2 or 3 H2 and a few H3 is more than enough

No specific number or percentage is given by search engines.
it should go with the flow of the page. Do not test the search engines' patience ![]() regards, Ashish Thakkar |

Think of your webpage as a document(an essay perhaps) and of HTML as labels for the parts of the document. H1,...H6 are for headlines for headings, subheadings, subsubheadings,... Only use for the depth that your page actually displays. Think of H1 as a full-page headline, H2 as subheadings for major sections, H3 as subsubheadings for the H2 sections, or possibly as headings for minor columns or side-bar sections. Even the New York times website shouldn't need H6 but they keep it supported just in case a page gets that deep. The only area I've seen H5,H6s used effectively would be longer technical documentation.
CSS is really the presentation layer so use it to determine sizes, spacing, etc... for your HTML tags. It's generally not a good thing to use an HTML tag for it's given default style in a certain browser as different browsers will display these differently. |

Re: How many times we can use this H tags in single page - H1,H2,H3,H4,H5,H6
The easist way to think about heading tags is think how they are used in off-line articles and then use the same principle for on-line articles.
For example you use them as many times as makes sense and you all ways put good information into them as well they are headers. So for an off-line article you may have your main heading as: <h1>The migration of African ducks between 1999-2010</h1> <h2>Ducks migration in 1999</h2> <h3>January's African duck migration</h3> <p> In january we saw.... </p> <h3>Feb's African duck migration</h3> <p> In feb we saw.... </p> etc.... <h2>Ducks migration in 2000</h2> <h3>January's African duck migration</h3> <p>....</p> <h3>....</h3> Etc...etc... Think will this make sense to the user if CSS is disabled more than how many times can i get away with using it. As headings by default should have a summary of the section below it. Then think if they can be improved but only if it will benefit the user. So if you have a shop that sells ducks and the nav has a header of: Categories To a user it would be better to put something like: Our Duck categories or Our current Duck categories are: Instead. But that makes sense to a user and all the Search Engines. But make sure it makes sense to a user and you wont go wrong with the search engines. To me though the H1 should only be used once as off-line articles only have 1 main heading the rest are sub headings of 2 or higher, so thats the principle I use for on-line. ![]() Last edited by Jazajay : 08-18-2010 at 03:30 AM. |

Examples like Jazajay's are an effective way to illustrate this. HTML is labeling a hierarchy and element types and can be done with an outline.
