Measuring Keyword Effectiveness for each ad

Assume I'm running an ad group and testing two ads: Ad 1: Buy Green Shoes. Ad 2: Buy Blue Shoes. I'm rotating each one 50% of the time.

In this ad group I have two keywords [blue shoes] and [green shoes].

I can easily see my CTR of each keyword. And I can measure conversion rate of each ad. But how can I measure the conversion rate of each ad as it relates to each keyword?

I assume the Buy Blue Shoes ad does best when the [blue shoes] keyword is triggered vs. [green shoes]. But where can I see this result?

Re: Measuring Keyword Effectiveness for each ad

There are a few ways of doing it - first you place tracking code on the ads with a dynamic insert of the keyword in the landing page and use that url in a conversion funnel

second you could simply create ad groups for the individual terms and tie the conversion to the ads - use two separate landing pages for the ads and then you can look across and we what is happening - I would do 75 - 25% for the specific associated color ads so as not to lose too many potential conversions while doing the test

Re: Measuring Keyword Effectiveness for each ad

Under Advanced Settings in AdWord's "Ad Performance" report, you can select Keyword and Match type columns and get a report for how each keyword converts for each ad (if you have conversion pixel in place).

Of course, you should have your "green shoe" keywords and "blue shoe" keywords in different ad groups anyways. Tightly-themed ad groups allow you to write more targeted ads and direct visitors to more targeted landing pages - in turn hopefully yielding you higher CTRs and potentially higher quality scores.
