Reporting Spam To Google

I have found a site that is using gateway pages to serve content for the engines which then redirects the pages to the homepage (sorry, I know all of you will already know that this is what these pages do.)

I have reported the site to Google for having these doorway/gateway pages and also for the hidden links that he site has in its homepage.

I have reported it 3 times, the most recent around the middle of November. Nothing has happened, in fact the site seems to have more pages in Google's index than before.

Am I wasting my time or does it take a while to get round to determining whether the site is using black/grey hat techniques?

It would take time as the team would be getting n number of requests, if you feel you can do your duties as such then carry on and hope you would have used the page Report a Spam Result. Btw, if you report things in detail then it might help the team to know easily what exactly occurs and might turn into faster response.

Google doesn't typically take Spam Reports and act on sites individually. Instead it uses them to tweak the algorithm so that in future updates all offending sites using similar spam methods will get dropped.

This process obviously would take longer than if they were to act on each site individually, but also makes the system less prone to competitive malpractice.
