How do I submit a Press Release?

I have an online business and just added a section called Press Releases. As our company creates Press Releases they will be added in this section of our website.
My question: How do I submit them? I don't know if there's one specific place to submit them, if they are submitted to the API, or if there are multiple ways. I did a Google Search and found tons of places saying to submit you Press Release but I don't know if there's one place to do it or multiple places. How do I go about doing this?

most big PR places push the releases out to the list of publishers etc. that they have built themselves. Try asking one where they send out to... though would not say I was a competitor.

If you are about writing them maybe partner with a distributor.

You might want to give PRWeb a try. They have several different packages to choose from and though the full package might seem a bit expensive, it really does give you great visibility across the web.

If you choose the SEO package they do a great job of optimizing your release for you so that it gets picked up all over the place, and we have found that they really do drive quality traffic to our site.

After you've had them optimize them a couple of times you'll be able to tell pretty well what you should be doing yourself, and then you may want to scale back to one of the less expensive packages.

It's pretty inexpensive and we've had good success with it. Their customer service is very good, so you could just give them a call and discuss your needs.

There are those PR directories where you can submit your PR. I think that's the right place.

Manual submission is best, whether you do it for directory submisison, for article submission or for the PR submission.

PRWeb + Search for publications which will be interested in your PR, and develop a relationship with them. It is far better to be able to send a press release to a specific journalist than to a catch all adress for a publication.

There are very few good press release services that are free. Definitely consider spending some money on it if you are putting out a reasonable number of releases each month/year.

If you can build your press release area so that it suits Google News guidelines, then you can get your press releases onto there but if you are in a competitive niche, it will be very hard to rank highly against the major sites covering the same subject area.
