Why Does Google Dominate The Internet?

I think Google is better. Google also developed Adsense before Yahoo and MS had competing services.

Yahoo played their cards differently than Google

Yahoo went after the big-fish, like the New York Times, The Washington Post and other big publishers. Google allowed everyone to play, even the small publishers. Early on I tried to sign-up for Yahoo Publisher Network when it was in beta and they never got back to me. Later I re-applied, I used Google Blogger as my site, and they signed me up. LOL

Google Adsense

I now have Yahoo Publisher Network on my Forum too, but I still think Adsense is way better. Google provides a way for me to monetize search too - Yahoo and others do not. I make money every day from people using the search box on my site.

I make a lot more money with Google. Yahoo does not have the publishers and they don't have many advertisers. Google allows me to place Video ads on my site. Google also has a better method for tracking revenue through channels.

Google Blogger

I mentioned Google Blogger above. Yahoo also has blogs, but they put their ads on them. Google does not put ads on their Blogger, but you can put ads on there if you want. I have several blogs, and even have Yahoo ads on one of my Google Blogs. LOL I put Adsense Ads on the rest of the blogs, along with some Amazon Ads. I don't see any way I can make money blogging on Yahoo's blogs, but I can with Google.

Publisher Solutions

I saw an interview with Eric Schmidt, CEO of Google. He mentioned that Google is in business (in part) to provide solutions for web publishers. The first solution, is the revenue solution. We can earn money with Adsense.

But Google provides more than just revenue. They provide Blogger too. This is like your very own site. I am not sure if their new SITES is similar.

Google also helps publishers in other ways, and it is all free. They provide Google Maps, Calendars and Video. All of this can be customized and embedded on your website or blog. And remember, it is all free. They even developed Google Earth and then gave that away for free.

Gmail

I mentioned why Google is better in another thread, but let me repeat it here. Google provides the same service, but better. Unlike MSN Hotmail and Yahoo Mail, Google Mail allows users to use their email client to retrieve and send mail. In other words, you don't need to log into a website to see your mail, it can be done from Outlook Express or Eudora or other clients.

Personalized Home Page

Yahoo allows you to customize your homepage with news and other gadgets. But they also put ads on your personal page. Google has come out with a customizable homepage that allows you to place news and gadgets on it too. But there are no advertisements, unless you choose a gadget with it. Google allows gadget developers to monetize their work, but Google also has tons of ad-free gadgets.

To create your own Google home page, just go to Google and add /ig to the end of the URL. It is a fun distraction, and I think better than Yahoo's option.

I probably forgot something. If you have a reason why Yahoo is better, please add your comment. I have thought about this for a long time, and I rarely go to Yahoo or MSN.

I am not sure what you mean. When I think of a media company, I think of content producers. I think I have heard people call Yahoo a portal.

I saw an interview with a Yahoo exec who mentioned that they don't produce content. All of their content is produced by AP, New York Times, MGM, Epic Records etc. Google does not really produce any content either.

Google owns YouTube. But like Yahoo, neither actually produces content. Google has begun to produce tutorial videos though. Google was a little slow to produce their customizable home page similar to Yahoo, but they have done that now too.

Google has also began archiving tons of public domain books. My wife and I have even taken some public domain books, which are just scanned, and used a OCR program to convert them to text. Then we use a text-to-speech program (personally I prefer iSpeak with the ATT voice "Mike") to convert the text to MP3. Then we listen to the books while working around the house. LOL

Anyway, getting back to the media part, I consider Yahoo more of a portal. They are a place where people go to get their news and information. Google was late, but their new personalized home page is similar to the Google page.

They both share some similarities. They both have search, news, and other entertainment.

Interesting. Better results? I have not used that yet. I use Google Image Search every day. I usually find what I need.

One thing I like about Google Video over YouTube is that you can filter out the shorter videos. Also, I noticed that Google is including many more sites outside YouTube and Google Video in the results.

Yeah I spent around 6 hours looking for 3 images on google search and got nothing after countless searches. Spent 40 mins on live with 1 search and got all 3. You get a lot more results per page as it is done by AJAX you can zoom in and out. But every time I have used Google image search I always get better results at live. I tend to find the same images and more in a lot quicker time.

Google provides better services through Gmail Orkut i-Google etc which are widely used. it provides maximum traffic to your website so it is better than any other.

Yahoo is such a great no-brain portal. It's very easy to read, but has a lot of great things right there for you. Throw on top your Yahoo mail and it's just very easy to use...
Tons of people still use Yahoo as their Home because of this. I start at Yahoo, but as soon as I search, I use my google toolbar to take me to G SERPs.
Google may have a better service, but as far a starting point for the things you want when you first open your browser, its just not as friendly...
I think I may also be a victim of old behavior... However, if I Browse I'm on Yahoo; if I SEARCH, I'm on Google...

yeah, I have... I think sometimes, I'm still a victim of old habits... ALSO, it requires that I stay logged into Google as I do things... I'm too paranoid about that. I even have a home machine that I don't have G toolbar installed on purpose.

Superior search results, positive experience = More Eyeballs.

More eyeballs = More advertisers

More advertisers = More money

More money = Google Buys YouTube, Overture/Yahoo patent, and every media company with a chance at success.

Owning a complete marketplace = Audacity

Audacity = the belief of being invincible.

Invincible = weakness

This weakness will be their demise.

Google looses respect for employees
Google lowers pay scale
Google cuts benefits
Google cuts daycare/after care
Google cuts little perks like food and snacks.
Google is losing its best talent.

Microsoft Live has excellent results.
Live.com is now search centric.
They have a quality ad network.
They have many of the same advertising tools.
They have far more user geo/demo data to leverage their apps.
They have not lost sight of "customer comes first".
Microsoft has a solid global position.
MSN/Live.com/Adcenter has waited, watched, learned and are now moving up on Google. Although they move at the pace of an iceberg, but once set in motion they are hard to stop.

Google will fall from the heavens in 2009 to become a simple technology company going head to head with Microsoft and Adcenter. If the Fed doesn't come in and chop them up into Baby Googles first.

Well, for the marketing aspect, I observed that more people use Google than yahoo.. And,google generates better results than yahoo.. I think that is the reason, results.. Plus, google is an established name, a made a good use of brand equity... When I asked some of my friends to search something in the net, they will just say, "Just google it my friend" or "I'll just google it." So google is planted in people's mind as a search engine, therefore establishing dominance in the Internet World
