Hi..
This refers to Google Page Rank, a 0-10 score that Google gives to assess the value of a web page. It's primarily determined by the quality and quantity of incoming links, and is a quick and dirty way to see how popular a page is. Since it's a universal metric that all webmasters can quickly check, it's often misused to assume how much traffic a site gets or how high it ranks - neither of which correlate very well with PR. Please share your ideas with us if have an more information on Google PR Value. Thanks Munna |

Re: Google PR Value
Much of what I've read recently speaks to PR becoming obsolete. Google claims that it is not used in their algorithm. It is solely used to determine a pages relevancy to a topic/keywords. Honestly, I have never found any practical use for it and dont see any indications that this will change.
Personally, I'd focus on more important SEM/SEO issues than being distracted with the Google PR tool. |

Re: Google PR Value
BasicECommerce, I was unaware the Google quite using PR as a metric. Basically, as Munna said, it has to do with the number of inbound links (quality).
Early on search engines used the number of times a word appeared on a page to determine relevancy and SERP. This could be manipulated easily which led Google to use inbound links as a relevance factor. People have been trying to trick that as well. |

Re: Google PR Value
Rubbish. PR has nothing to do with relevancy!

Re: Google PR Value
PR isn't a measure of relevancy, it's a mathematical measure used to compute the "importance" of pages as indicated by votes for the page (links).
They really haven't stopped using it, it's got a lot to do with crawling of a site, including frequency and depth. Lack of enough PR is an easy shortcut into the Supplemental index, which though they may not be "calling" it that any more, still exists in experiential reality. Re: Google PR Value
I can't understand where some of the misunderstandings are coming from in this thread!
PR is still important for things like depth of crawl; supplemental index etc Everyone agrees that quality and quantity of links are important in rankings. PR is a measure of the quality and quantity of links, so even if its not used in the rankings, what it measures is used in the rankings!! |
