What exactly does language targeting do?
I am a bit confused about what selecting a language for a campaign does. For example, if I choose French, and enter all of my ads in English, will my ads be translated? Will the Ad only be shown on Google in French? What if I put in english keywords? Also, what is the impact of my language choice on partner sites? Will I be removed from non-French partner sites? Finally, what if I decide to locally target Canada. Will my French language ads appear to people who are from Canada?
Thanks to anyone who can help here. |

A spot of clarification...
owna1, I've just stopped by for a few minutes, and hope that I can briefly clarify this for you.
Firstly, the Google site is available in dozens of different language interfaces. (I can't help myself, and I just have to say it: there are interfaces ranging from Albanian to Zulu!) You can learn more about this here: http://www.google.com/language_tools?hl=en ) Now, when you create a campaign and choose a language, it means your ad will show to people who are using that particular language interface. However, your ad will not be translated. Rather, it will show exactly as you've written it. So if you have written your ad in English, your ad will still show in English. And if you have entered your keywords in English, then the user will have to have searched using English search terms in order to see your ads. So, bottom line, neither your ads or keywords will be translated. On to country targetting: when you're creating a campaign, and choose to target a country, then it means that your ad will show only to those folks whom AdWords can identify as being in that country. Hope this clears things up at a basic level. AWR Last edited by AdWordsRep : 08-05-2004 at 09:43 PM. Reason: Grammar! |
