So why is it that Google's blog search isn't being affected by the "canonical" URL problem?

4 different URL's to reach the same content... all 4 shouldn't have that high of a PageRank should they?

Just get the right sites to link to you and there's no sandbox, no canonical URL issues, etc. etc.

It's all about who links to you.
