Google Base: Google's Project To Take Listings Of Anything

Google Base is Google’s latest project in an effort to organize the world’s information. It isn’t in Beta or Alpha yet. They are still developing it. I wasn’t able to get much information from my sources at Google, but I’ll tell you what they told me. Basically, Google Base will present feed results on the results page. The feeds will probably be anywhere from 1-3 results, and either presented above or below the horizontal sponsored ads. I asked if the feeds will include podcast feeds, or just RSS feeds. My source wasn’t sure. I asked if they be sponsored ads for feeds, or just what Google considers relevant? Answer not known. We’ll just have to wait and see.

I don´t really understand about what you are speaking shimsand. A feed search would be the same as the Blogsearch already is. At the moment the Blogsearch is a feed search and not a real Blogsearch. Or are you speaking about mixing Blogsearch with the normale Web Search? But either way I don´t see why to name it "Base". Don´t make sense to me.

I think the introduction of a service like Google Base will change the web forever. This is the first step in enabling search engines to *understand* content, not just pattern-match it.

In a way Google is slowly saying Bye to text search, and Hello to structured search. This will give search relevancy a huge boost.

As an affiliate marketer – this will really take away from from my eBay commission business. Why? There are thousands of people like myself who target certain keywords using Google Adwords and make commission by linking to eBay to make a commission. Now I have a feeling those ads will be replaced with the Google Base Ads.

This can be an interesting turn – perhaps Google will have some affiliate program?!

With regard to using Google Base to generate classified ads, the article asks whether Google's spidering, indexing, and ranking system could react fast enough to classified ads to be meaningful in this very fast-paced segment of the advertising market.

The article also brings up eBay's reputation system, which Google thus far lacks, and also the question of what happens to Google's relationship with publishers and partners if Google crosses the line and itself becomes a content provider, which is effectively what Google Base would do.

IMO, the sooner webmasters starting seeing Google as their competition (the same way Google sees everyone else) the better it will be for webmasters. This company aims to get into pretty much every business where they can find information (for organizing, pun intended).

Well one things for sure; as usuall this industry changes faster then most if not all i have witnessed. What works and pays the bill today, can get the torpedo tomorrow. As usual those of us that can figure out ways to exploit the system to our advantage will thrive.

The issue is a search box built into the new ie7 browser, which enables users to search without opening a search engine directly in the browser. The function is already available as a plug-in for existing browsers. For instance, the Google toolbar will modify Firefox browsers to enable Google to be accessed in a single click.Ability to change the search providers default setting could create another wars, with ie7 search providers working on partnerships with the Dells and HPs to convince them to ship machines with the search box set to their site.
