Understanding Google Ratings
This is probably a complete novice / newbie question so please be patient.
How do we find out how much traffic a particular Search Term is creating on Google. i.e if we enter in a search term and the page says something like "112,000 entries", how can we find out on an avarage day, how much traffic the No1 or No 2 listed site is getting ? Is there a way to find out this information. Cheers Steve |

Welcome to SEW sgsmorgan.
There is not a single good way to find this information as you asked (traffic for #1 or #2, etc.). A good way to see how many searches there are being made on Google specifically, is to run an AdWords campaign with really low bids (if you don't want to spend money on hits that is) and use exact and phrase matching. The Overture keyword tool is helpful, but the numbers are skewed quite a bit by automated tools (I think their numbers usually high). WordTracker (subscription required) is one of the"industry standards" and the data comes from meta-search engines, so it is not supposed to be as skewed (not always the case though). I feel that their numbers are usually a bit low. Nichebot is a decent free tool. As to the part of your question about traffic by SERPs position, there isn't any way to see that with a tool. Studies have been made on this topic (Google search). See also SEW's "Google Click Rates by Organic Position" thread for more info. Hope that helps. martin |
