No site showing in google cache -- why?
Hi all,
This is my first forum post, so thanks in advance for any feedback. I have a site that does not show at all in the Google cache except for a few links - why would this be? It does not show for any keyword I search for. I am happy to post an example-- wasn't sure if posting them is ok in this forum. Thanks for your help! Kristen |

The page has to turn up in a search for keywords - are you ranking for your keywords? The cache should show for pages that are in the index. Is the page text content regular HTML or Javascript - or possibly all in graphics instead of regular text? |

Not showing up in cache
Hi Marcia,
Perhaps it IS because it is mostly graphics. They are ranking in the engine for the keywords I checked, actually Page one Rank one for the terms, but only text is showing whereas other sites in the rankings are showing the entire page loaded, graphics and all in the cache. The site is built I believe with JavaScript elemensts, CSS, and Colf Fusion. Would anyb of these cause the cached pages to only show text? Thanks for your help! Kristen |

Kristen, obviously if they're showing Google can read the links. But search engines don't read JS and don't index it. Not only that, but regular surfers can't see text that's JS if they have Javascript disabled in their browsers. Nor can search engines read text that's in graphics. It's the text in regular HTML that gives the spiders food.
If the pages are PR1 it sounds like you'll have to start getting some directory listings and inbound links as well as putting some regular text on the pages and doing a little optimization. |
