Parked Domains - To Point or Not to Point?
I have a website and two URL's myurl.co.uk and myurl.com. I currently host the website using the .co.uk domain and have the .com parked and pointing at the .co.uk.
If someone visits the .com URL, the .co.uk is still detailed in the browser address bar and I would like to display the .com address but don't really want to host the additional site and risk tripping a duplicate content filter. Is it safe to use the following META refresh just to change the domain name or is this spamming the engines? <HEAD> <META HTTP-EQUIV="REFRESH" CONTENT="1;URL=http://myurl.com"> <TITLE>Hello World</TITLE> </HEAD> Are there any alternative methods that are acceptable to the SE's? A 301 or 302 maybe? But then surely these would still change the domain address anyway? This must be a common problem, but whats the best practice solution? |

A 301 redirect is the best way to handle this but will typically require its own hosting account. That all depends on whether you host in shared environment or have your own server though.

Thanks David,
I'm using a shared Windows server at the moment for this website. Any suggestions for the best approach to a 301 setup, or is it not possible ona shared server? ![]() |
