SEO-Browser

Hi everyone!

Can you test something for me? Feel free to be brutal in your review.

Like many people, I use lynx to test websites as part of my SEO work.

Sometimes, however, I need to use a web-based version, which up until now has been the Delorie tool.

However, this tool didn't do what I wanted it to do (I still had to use 10 or 15 sites just to check one site) so I started to develop my own, in conjunction with a marketing company and developer I know.

By coincidence, Delorie has recently changed it's tool to the point where it's useless to me, and, I expect, many others.

So, to make a long story short, I'm releasing the beta (though it's probably closer to alpha right now) tool out now, rather than later.

The concept is simple, create a tool that mimics what a search engine sees, and then add other tools an SEO needs in conjuction with it.

Due to bandwidth usage, we are planning to make it half commercial, half free. The basic functionality will be, of course free. It's essentionally an online lynx-type viewer with some enhancments specific to SEO's (like how it handles some things that a SE might care about but a pure text browser would not).

Then the idea is to have a much more robust version behind a login that will do all sorts of fun things, many of which will require a Google API, etc (thus the login).

The basic functional version is here:

http://www.seo-browser.com/

And the more advanced version is here:

EDIT: both tools are now accessed at the above URL

For now, the advanced version is being added to daily and is open to the public for testing purposes. After we get it working perfectly, It will be a paid area (probably along the lines of Wordtracker style - pay by day, week, year, etc.)

One thing I'd like to add once it's done is the ability to get an XML feed from the advanced section that people can use to format their own reports with, etc.

Please feel free to test it and provide feedback. We are committed to making both versions (including the free one) available and the best we can make them.

Thanks!

Ian

Ian - Have just given the advanced version a quick try on a client site in development, and it uncovered several problems that have passed everyone by. So, thank you already. I'm looking forward to playing with it some more and seeing how it evolves.

To add a PS to this, it would be great if it could look at a local page that's not yet online.

maybe there is a problem on my end, but neither version pulled any style sheet info.

regardless, this is going to be a great method for me to not only continue to evaluate our site(s) but to also educate some of our property managers on how our huge, "pretty", corporate site gets its rear mopped by more "homely" sites

well, at the moment, anyway

The developer just informed me that the stylesheet stuff is currently being coded, and that's why it's broken - it should be fixed in a bit
