Google allinurl / site - results explained please
Hi
Will checking through Google to see what pages are indexed etc. I sometimes get results back where it is just the url listed in the results e.g. www.mydomain.com/products.asp?catagory... Similar pages And it says 'Similar pages' underneath the link as shown above. Are these results links that Google has visited but not yet indexed thoroughly? Many thanks Andy |

Usually the URL only listings means that Google is aware of the link (URL) but has not spidered/indexed the page yet. A few people have reported recently that they are seeing previously indexed pages (usual title and description listings) that have reverted to URL only listings.
http://forums.searchenginewatch.com/...ead.php?t=5245 I have seen this on two of my sites and I'm not sure yet what, if any, significance this holds. I'm giving it a little time to see if they return in a bit. This happened to me once before and the pages returned to normal in a week or so. Were your pages listed normally prior to the URL only listings? Last edited by martinuboo : 04-19-2005 at 08:47 AM. Reason: clarify |

Thanks martinuboo
It's a new site, it's being crunched by the 'Big 3' but Google only seems to be listing the results as explained above (aprt from 3 pages) I think for me it's what you say Google has been indexed the link and just needs to return and grab the content....me hopes :O) MSN is having a great time with the site, I timed it just about the time when MSN launched its new engine....and Yahoo hasnt gone any further than the home page...doh Thanks again, Andy p.s. I will keep this thread updated when more happens with my results on Google. |

Every site experiences this eventually.
It's been said that the more popular your site is, (and Google can tell from the SERPs pages how often your site is selected), the more frequently you will be spidered. Having fresh content available each time the spider comes along encourages more frequent indexing as well. Sites like cnn or drudge report get spidered and indexed more often. This prioritization occurs automatically. Since indexing is resource intensive it makes sense to prioritize it. Deep indexing seems to follow the shallow link gathering indexing and the delay is seen as the phenomenon you describe. |
