Google cold calling

My brother-in-law has an ecommerce website and just received a call from Google offering a monthly £100 charge for adwords, and after 12 months, he'll get a 25% discount.

Firstly, I find it amazing that Google are now cold calling. Secondly, there was no mention of the min. cost per keyword, or the frequency, so the monthly cost is an almost irrelevant cost anyway! And finally, is this 25% discount normal on a budget as small as £100?

Have him get an email address to reply to. If its not a google.co.uk address, the caller is lying.

yeah could be a scam - but Google is offering help these days for adwords - but usually not for a charge

I get these calls now and then from local search firms that at first imply they "work for Google". Then they start saying that they "work with Google". And then I hang up.

Most certainly not if he isn't already running AdWords. This is a typical scam in the US for vendors to make a customer think they are talking directly to google/yahoo/etc, but are in fact just dealing with some guy running adwords.

I agree with the previous posters.

This sounds very unlike anything I have seen offered by Google in my six+ years with AdWords.

they are suing the name of google to sell easy to provide services - or not in many cases - Google is just too well branded to the novice
