Has anyone gotten a free listing?

I submitted two a while back, one a non-profit and the other a "hobby" type site - nothing. I know some used to get in free, even an ecom site, and I'm wondering if it even pays to bother submitting those two again.

I don't even submit paid listings anymore. There are so many other directories out there now that will help to build your link popularity, some for free and others for a lot cheaper than $299 a year. Besides, the last time I checked, Yahoo was using the title and description from a site's directory listing in the regular SERPs where their home page showed up. That means it didn't matter what you had in your title tag, meta description tag or html content, Yahoo was going to display what they had written or allowed in the Directory which usually only consist of a company name for title and a short editor written description. I don't know if they are still doing this or not.

As far as the benefit of someone finding your listing by drilling down the directory structure, I wonder how many people actually even use the directory anymore.

That being said I think if I really wanted to be listed, I'd just pay. I would have more hope that DMOZ would list me for free then Yahoo.

I have got two sites added free.

both rather quickly too. One like in a month and one in well under 2 weeks I think. Both were added early on this year.

Marcia - I believe you can resubmit after 6 weeks (yes you read that right!).

Might be worth a try

I've submitted some few non-commercial hobby and reference sites - nothing ever listed. Last submission was January 22nd 2004.

Resubmitted a deeplink from a small ecom site on 10/21/04 using Standard Submit - it was added to a couple of topical categories within a week.

Yahoo suggests resubmitting after two to three weeks to the same category. I'd resubmit, takes much less time to do so there than at some other directories.
