Image Optimisation & Blended Search

When optimising images (ALT, URL, filename, captions, surrounding text) does the actual loation of the image factor?

SITE: www.mydomain.com
IMAGE Loation: images.mydomain.com

Arguably the site size is reduced as the images aren't part of the site itself and live on another domain.

From an SEO perspective which is preferable? Having the image location as part of the site or not? Does it matter? If I could do a server side URL rewrite so it appears the image location is on www.mydomain.com help?

Thanks in advance

The image is a separate file in your web site... I would use an images folder off root directory

Re: Image Optimisation & Blended Search

Thanks AussieWebmaster. Just to clarify, are you saying then that it would be better that the image location is preferable to be on www.mydomain.com? Would the notion of perception (using URL rewriting) not suffice?

The reason I ask is that my client has 50+ sites and all images are sourced from images.mydomain.com. From an administration prespective this is far easier, working as a library, then having images physically resident on the main domain.

Cheers

It's best to have images in a folder on the root.

IE
yoursite.com/images/whatever.jpg

I wouldn't suggest having images for one domain at another domain or subdomain. Each domain and/or subdomain should have it's own images. It may be easier from an admin perspective but at the same time seem each individual site has less invested from an engine's perspective.
