Hi Vfirst. By going down, I hope your meaning the number is increasing. That is how alexa works. I'm not quite sure why your bothered with this anyway, as this can be manipulated so much, which demonstrates just how little it weighs in on the importance scale. If you want a better alexa ranking, then market your site effectively to increase your visitor throughput. You can read all the forums here and around the web on how to achieve that. If you want to just manipulate it, then yourself and your friends, visit each page of the site once a day with the alexa toolbar turned on, and in no time at all, poof....instant alexa ranking improvement.

Honestly, I would start reading and increase that visitor throughput which will naturally improve it and boost your site, sales, etc, all at the same time.

My main question would be is there are a particular reason you feel the need to (work on your Alexa rating)? Alexa rankings certainly aren't the life or death of a site. I know some people put a lot of stock in them, but many look at them for what they are - a biased, fun and easily manipulated representation of website traffic.

That said, as mentioned above, Alexa is easily manipulated. You can install their toolbar and visit your site a bunch or encourage your site visitors to download the toolbar and then their visits will count to boost your rankings. But, be sure you do some research on the toolbar before you go asking your visitors to download it if you care about their trust. I've seen a lot of complaints that is one heck of a task to try and get every trace of it off your computer when you want it uninstalled.

You should never worry about *your* Alexa rank, since your website logs are far more accurate for traffic measurement.

Alexa Rankings are even easier to manipulate than SE ones. Install the bar on your site and set it as your home page. Also, there are companies that actually "sell" it by operating auto-click solutions.

All of which points to the fact it's not worth anything, in and of itself. There are times when it's interesting to compare 2 sites in the same industry who are unlikly to have manipulated their AR, but not much more than that.

I'll occasionally look ar AR when considering a directory that has non-spiderable links and therefore only has traffic as a benifit - but that's a rare case. I usually assume that a directory owner that doesn't have spiderable links is clueless about how the internet works or has an ulterior motive (like link/PR hording)
