Hi All,
Thanks so much for all the great info in this forum! Do blogs get penalized in SERP vs. regular web sites? In the last month and a half, my blog has received inbound links from ~500 other blogs and sites. These are all legitimate links (i.e., all of the blogs are owned by other people who linked to my blog because they found it and like my content). A lot of the blogs have PR of 4 or 5. Yahoo!'s backlink count for my site is ~50,000 since many blogs put their blogrolls on every archived page. In fact, the anchor text for almost all the links contains the keywords. And yet, Google ranks my site ~20 for my keywords. All of the other sites ranked higher in my keywords have PR of 4 or 5 and no more than a hundred backlinks. Do any of you have any ideas about what could cause this? Here are some more things that I have done to my blog: 1. put the keywords in the <TITLE> tag 2. put the keywords in the page's title in an <H1> tag 3. put the keywords in bold in several places on the page |

no they do not. in fact some people have even wrote articles complaining about how blogs are so link dense that some of them heavily restructure the web.

50,000 backlinks... good going!
What is the anhcor text like in the backlinks? You need to make sure that the keyphrases you want to rank for is present in the links, with 50,000 of them I would try and vary the anchor text as you should be able to cover several keyphrases with a good amount like that. |

I've been seeing some devaluation in blog links in the serps. They certainly aren't "penalized", but with all the inbounds to your blog coming from other blogs, what you may be seeing is that you need more links than sites getting links from outside the blogger arena. Also, you didn't mention if your anchor text being used on the blog rolls is that of the target terms, so that could possibly be a factor as well.
I have a blog that is simply for personal use and it gets a lot of traffic from the engines. But then again, I'm not targeting competitive commercial terms either . |
