New Search Engine Friendly Web Directories

A few new search engine friendly directories have recently been launched...

http://www.webatlas.org/ one time $10 fee <-- just launched today
http://www.uncoverthenet.com/ one time $10 fee <-- launched about a week ago

I think both of the following have been launched sometime within the past month or two
http://www.site-sift.com/ one time $13 fee
http://www.abilogic.com/ currently free

I've added most of them to my list:
<snipped>

I couldn't get Site Sift to load up though - is that on the same server as your site, as that's unreachable here, too.

And nice to see WebAtlas going - Nandini seems to have built a fine script there - I sincerely hope she'll start selling licences - not least because we helped advise her at v7n on what we needed as SEO's.

Brian-

I noticed your post here, I can answer your question about Site-Sift Web Directory. The hosting company had some recent server downtime. They explained to me that one of their clients sites was taking down their server. They isolated the problem and we should be good to go now.

As a little note we feel the directory (keep your eye on it) will get some decent PR on the next update. We have several high PR links pointing its way, numerous PR8, PR7, PR6, PR5 and are aggressively working on added to the mix every week. The directory is now seven weeks old.

Thank you! & sorry about the downtime.

No problem - server outages happen. I've looked at your directory and it all seems fine - added it the the list.

How exactly do these search engines differ from traditional smaller search engines (like Mamma, Kanoodle, ePilot, 7Search, etc.)?

Thanks Aaron

Thal, the directories lsted here, and most directories in general are usally hand edited organized "lists of websites". Whereas search engines and such are usually machine ran algorithms.

Thal, some are PPC engines and some are meta engines that get their results from a few different sources. Then there are some newer directories that set up "feeds" from the PPC engines that participate in affiliate programs to get commission for traffic sent - they get nice affiliate commissions from those sometimes.

There are all different models and they all serve different purposes. Following along with your question, what I'd be interested in seeing discussed is what constitutes "second tier" since there is a variance of opinion with PPCs and there may be also with directories being second tier.
