AdWords Mobile Ads - A Legacy Product?

I'm testing AdWords on mobile platforms. Let's face it, with 1 billion mobile handsets sold each year this will become the worlds biggest computing platform as we move to the third generation (3G) devices. Right now the benchmark example is the "2.5G" iPhone from Apple. It has a spectacular 480x320 display at a resolution of about 160dpi.

Anyway, I setup a mobile ad in adwords. It turns out this ad is used on the "older" devices such as the Blackberry and 2G cell phones, but Google uses *regular* text ads on the newer devices such as the iPhone.

So, if you're trying to measure this market by running a mobile ad, don't forget that your regular ads might also be getting distribution on mobile devices. Alas, AdWords gives no separate stats on this distribution. It would be good to see these numbers.
