Google - Keywords Per Query Have Increased
Google's Analytics Evangelist, Avinash Kaushik was in Atlanta this week and mentioned a few interesting updates related to Google's user stats and the trends they are seeing.
Avinash said, the average number of keywords per query has gone from 3 to 4 words per query on average for the first time ever! He also said that only 14% of clicks come from paid search (up slightly) and that 25% of queries are unique (unchanged). More details are posted on my blog: http://www.beussery.com/blog/index.p...ave-increased/ |

Re: Google - Keywords Per Query Have Increased
Yep, good stuff. I assume to get 4 words, he "rounded up" though, based on analytics across a few hundred sites we watch.

Right, I guess it also depends if you round up/down or if you only round up. From what I see the avg. is in the lower-mid 3.x range. This might also depend on the SEO, i.e. aimed heavily at tailwords or not. |

Re: Google - Keywords Per Query Have Increased
You both make excellent points and bring up questions it seems we would all like answered! Perhaps AWR or others will drop by to "Officially confirm" and better explain how Google makes such calculations?

Re: Google - Keywords Per Query Have Increased
Thats good news!!!
The number of keywords per query has increased due to increase in awareness of internet users. It has always been proven that Long tail kws are more specific and quality result driving. And as every1 want specific search results, visitors are searching with exact key phrases. I predict it will go upto 5 somewhere down the line. |

"I did not get enough clarity if it is 3.6 or 4.2. But none the less it was a movement from 3 to 4.” Which indicates to me, just as you said it may be a rounded number. ![]() more at my blog: http://www.beussery.com/blog/index.p...a-query-are-4/ |
