Is .com always in front of .net/.org/other domains?
A few years ago I remember that a friend of mine told me that the domain ".com" is always in front of all other domain names. Is this really true ?

Well, i have never seen any clue that may prove this statement. I belive that seach engines doesn't make difference among TLDs.

The domain extension has most impact outside of US when it is the one for the country the search is being done in

Re: Is .com always in front of .net/.org/other domains?
gTLD = Generic Top Level Domain (.com, .org, .net)
ccTLD = Country Code Top Level Domain (.ca, .uk, .jp, .mx) These are the most common you will run into. However, there are at least two other types: rTLD = Restricted Top Level Domain (.gov, .mil, .edu, .pro) sTLD = Sponsored Top Level Domain (.travel, .mobi, .jobs ) There is no indication that a gTLD or sTLD makes any difference at all in rankings, and Google's Matt Cutts has even directly said it doesn't. There are some people who claim that rTLD's are treated differently because the restrictions mean they are more trusted, but I suspect that it is not true. There is a controversy over it, though. A ccTLD can have an effect on your rankings for the country that it is connected to, since the assumption is that if you have a .ca you are more likely to be relevant to Canadians than a generic site, for exanmple. Re: Is .com always in front of .net/.org/other domains?
You can put the rTLD's better links down to the facts that -
1. they dont use bad technquies 2. they have good content that people search for and want. 3. Amost always are authority sites and have been established for ages so therfore have trust with the link. 4. Link out to related sites. 5. Have lnks thrown at them by every other site. I link to several UK gov sites, I didn't ask for a recip. hum maybe I should?6. Write articles for the people not the engines, so with the new techquies G is bring in they will just get better. 7. Always have fresh content, otherwise they get suewed for bad advice, that is related to the site. 8. Are accessable, meaning good for indexing, as they have to comlie with the web design disablilty act in the UK, is it article 301 in the states. Because they dont use bad technquies and have no need to - why would they buy or sell links for example ![]() So become good links for those reasons and those reasons alone. I doubt it's down to the domain it's down to the bigger picture - trust and relevance that come from the owners not needing to play the system. But the only reason domains matter is in foregin SEO I only had .com and I did ok in the UK search before I bought .co.uk. O the good old days of last year. I would personally say thats more down to server placement. Jaza Last edited by Jazajay : 01-31-2008 at 09:34 PM. |
