Adsense tool for Windows

We just made a small Windows program which allows you to retrieve Google Adsense stats and displays them in a small application that sits in the tray. When you minimize the application, it moves to the title bar of your active window.

If you want to give it a try : www.sensetool.com

If you have any suggestions, please let us know.

Hi, there

It may be a good idea to have an online functional demo (limited version), so we can test it and evaluate it. Some users are afraid of downloading software over the net. Just a suggestion.

I understand your concerns, but I don't understand what you mean by functional demo. What can we create that's more limited than the current program ?

Hi, there.

I was thinking in on a barebone version that would give users an idea of your software. If this is not possible then other alternatives to downloading things could be a server side version in a secured environment where it can be tested. Some users simply don't download freeware without knowing in what they are getting into. Just a suggestion.

What's the difference between downloading or launching it in a web-browser ? Basically, it runs on your computer in an ActiveX or Java applet in that case, so there's no real difference.
I for one would rather install a program on my system, allowing me to control which files it creates, which registry keys it creates, etc., than running it in a browser, where it can do anything if that permission has been given to the browser.

Maybe I'm not understanding you correctly though. Could you explain a bit more in detail in that case ?

Kind regards,

Wim

This is a matter of perception and security. Some users have reserves about downloading freebies from companies they never heard about before, even if these are announced in a broker site. Others simply do not enable Java or ActiveX. You may want to think about how to target such prospective users. From the marketing standpoint, it simply makes no sense to stick to a single distribution strategy.

I wish you good luck.

We're looking into it. Right now though, the Windows setup will be the only one available. We might offer a web-based version in the near future, but the problem is we'd have to go for ActiveX/Java, because we can't run it as a server-side application, as that would mean we'd have to let people enter their username and password on our server pages... not exactly what we want !

SenseTool is part of a series of tools we're working on to improve site revenue. If response is good, we'll certainly expand its features and add it to the future tool offerings.

BTW : in case you're wondering who we are : if you ever used the GNet Search Engine Submission System (http://gnet.dhs.org), that's us ! GNet has been dead for quite some time, but it used to be pretty popular before the company was actually started.

I have never heard of it, it must have came out before my time. I just glanced at it and noticed some of your vertical portals that are listed are affiliate link embedded searchboxes.

That's just the main page. The boxes on the left take you to the actual system. The Windows version is still listed on Tucows (http://tucows.pandora.be/preview/194815.html) although it's not really working well anymore, as too many engines have updated in the past few years.

I downloaded your tool, but was reluctant to use it for 1 reason.

I don't know if it reports back to the mothership. Does it?

If it doesn't then great, good work

I took a look at the screen shots and wondered where the numbers for "Earnings" come from. We aren't using Google conversion tracking.

No connections to any other servers than the Google Adsense server, except when you click on Update to see if there's a new version of SenseTool.

Those numbers simply come from the Google Adsense stats, which are displayed when you login.
