Why cant i get my Pagerank up?
Hi all, please excuse anything i write as you have all probably heard these questions before.
I have been trying to increase my page rank for about 6 months now and nothing really seems to be happening. Im using reciprocal link programs, im emailing other websites for links, some of which have been kind enough to link to me, ive signed upto blog sites and haved posted, im signed up to Myspace etc and have links on my pages and now im siging upto forums and posting on boards and making sure that my profile has my url, what else is there that i can do without spending a shed load of money on advertising and seo. |

Re: Why cant i get my Pagerank up?
Well, number 1, what makes you think your PR isn't going up? Number 2, PR isn't updated daily or monthly. Number 3, you're already doing things wrong.
Reciprocal links Myspace links??? Blog and forum spam ..and it goes on. Myspace links aren't direct links to websites. Check your Myspace coding and you'll see. Blogs and forums often block links with no-follow. Reciprocal links dont really help you and if you didn't do it right, can hurt you. Check out SEW's Link Building threads for more information. |

Re: Why cant i get my Pagerank up?
I think cryptblade may have been talking in broad strokes there toy...
If you have a banner on MySpace and it's linked to you, it won't hurt you. It also will not help, as the types of links the engines want to see are plain text links. Now, recip links are fine for new sites to get crawled and gain some exposure, but they won't help much in the hunt for PR. Their value these days is more in the form of traffic. Get a link on a busy page and it'll bleed some traffic to you - which pays dividends in exposure, and the hope those new users drop links to you elsewhere. ![]() As for posting on blogs and in forums, there's a split there: 1 - if you have your link in your signature on a forum, that's fine (if their policy allows it) - though it won't do much good. The engines know those links are often from spammers, so they discount their value. Basically, you can think of it like this - if you post 100 posts, you'll have 100 links; one from each time your signature shows up. Right? Wrong - the engines will pretty much discount them all, and maybe give you a smidge of credit for having a link from that domain. 2 - if you're just link dropping in posts - well, please don't - that's just rude. I don't get the feeling you are, but I wanted to cover it for future readers. That's for forums - for blogs, the social component gets a bit more personal. Most blog software will drop a link to you when you post a comment, so "getting " the link isn't the issue. It's being a good team player that counts. You WANT to participate actively with the blog and the blogger - gaining their faith means more likelihood of a real link from their main page or in a good post from them. That takes time, patience and an investment of time, for sure. Now, all of this is leading me to two critical points: 1 - good links are hard to come by, and will require a large amount of your time to secure 2 - don't chase Page Rank. POW! There it is... The answer to all your problems! Seriously - chasing PR is a dead end. Users don't visit you because you have a higher PR. They don't keep coming back because you have a high PR. The like you because of your site's style and content. Invest ALL of that time into creating useful, unique content, and your traffic WILL increase as users realize what a great resource you are. In the end, as go the users, so go the links and thus follow the engines. Still want higher PR? Create your own gravity - BE THE AUTHORITY on your topic - it's the surest, quickest path to higher long term PR. (Yep, we're right back at building that great content again!) |

Re: Why cant i get my Pagerank up?
A link on an ebay page has little value to you - like one pointed from an item for sale back to something on your site, or in your profile there, for example - well, a link in your profile may pass some value, but if your profile page has no page rank, there's nothing to pass.
A link from an "About Me" page needs to be looked at in 2 ways, but both are related...follow? I'll clear the mud... 1 - If it's YOUR "About Me" page, then it comes down to simple PR and link juice. If the page has PR, it can pass some along. The usual rules about linking to relevant pages will apply, though, so linking from "About Me" to another site you own may not give you the lift you might really like. if the topics are different. 2 - If it's SOMEONE ELSE'S "About Me" page - think about it - if it's about them, and they're linking to you...the engines will see it as less than relevant... ![]() To give you an idea of what MAY be a viable situation, look at this example: 1 - I am a writer - and I talk about this on my "About Me" page. 2 - I link from that page out to a site which sells stationary and books (mine or otherwise, though I'd charge if it wasn't MY site... ).In this case, there's a relevancy and the link juice should flow as hoped. |

Re: Why cant i get my Pagerank up?
Posting comments etc just for the links is spamming... if you are involved with the community that is different.... if that is your approach and you have a name at various blogs and forums I would start a blog that you can reference in the signature etc.
This way people will follow the link to read more of your opinions... and in some cases post links to specific posts you make. That will get you link juice. Listing at Yahoo, Best Of The Web and DMOZ are worth it... the first two cost money the third costs time and frustration |

The Page Rank Of A Website depends solely on your inbound links. The PageRank of a website is calculated with the help of the following equation:
PR(A)=(1-d)+(PR OF LINK PAGE 1*D/NO OF LINKS IN PAGE1)+ (PR OF LINK PAGE 2*D/NO OF LINKS IN PAGE2)+.....+(PR OF LINK PAGE P*D/NO OF LINKS IN PAGE P). Where A,is your website D is a damping factor =0.85 link page 1,2...,P are the pages that has a link pointing to your website and can be found out by conducting a search on google with link:www.website.com. Proper Link Exchange is the perfect way to improve your page rank on the net.A good page rank ensures better traffic which further enhances the website prospects on the web. |

You do realize that your pretty little PR formula is NOT how PR is actually calculated, right marketraisecorp?

and internal links are part of it... the .85 has been a theoretical number used to explain the system.
