Thumbs up Google Testing New Ad Format

We have just noticed that Google is testing a new AdWords ad format that combines the regular sponsored link format with expandable Local search results, which was previously seen only in organic results.

Search Daily News: Google testing sponsored links with local map results

We've got screenshots and a more detailed description on our blog. Google have confirmed they're testing the new format.

Has anyone else seen this?

Re: Google Testing New Ad Format

I haven't seen it, but it certainly is interesting. I wonder if you'll be able to opt-out in the future.

Re: Google Testing New Ad Format

A few of the advertisers seem to currently have it and a few don't. Not sure if those that do are only the ones who have opted in for local search ads or if they've been randomly picked or if they opt in / out

Pictures eat SRP real estate

Nope, not seen it yet. (I'm in New York). Of course, I'm seeing more and more stuff show up in the organics. I just saw one of our videos - a still in a neat click to play frame - listed in the organics on a regular search. Universal search rollout I guess.

Helpful images are not bad for SRP real estate

Universal search isn't all bad. I like the integration of various Google technologies, so long as they do it sensibly, which i think they are.

For e.g. a search for 'SEO London' in the past would pull up a map result first, followed by listings of SEO agencies, which didn't make a lot of sense, as most people aren't going to run out to meet their nearest SEO.

Now, instead, they list 2-4 sites that probably see a higher click through rate, and list the map + 3 local results further down the search results.

Re: Google Testing New Ad Format

It ran in NYC a while ago - had examples in the hotel industry. Guess they are now trying new countries.
