Duplicate Content

Two questions about Duplicate Content:

1. Reading some articles on duplicate content recently I came across an article that seemed to imply that duplicate content was an issue for the originator of the content. For example, if I had some original content on my site and others copied my content, it was bad for me. I was always under the impression that the duplicate content was an issue for the copier, not the site that was copied.

2. I am looking to restructure a site and want to move a page from one subdirectory to another. I know I can link from one to the other but, for navigation reasons, I don't reallly want to do this. The problem is that this could create a situation where I have two pages on my site (in different sub folders) each with the same content. What are the considerations/views on duplicate content within the same site?

Both 1, 2 are the same really..

Generally dup content is due to bad struture..
Its a really bad "worked around" what your suggesting.. Basically a page should be about a subject and should be linked to internally when needs be..

If you changing the structure then simple 301 redirect to the new location..

Many common problems are thing like www. vs non www. and site.com/ vs site.com/index.php

I've spend many days writing scripts to 301 for example in IIS you can often return .htm and .html and it only take one person to link to the wrong file type to create 2 indentical pages..
