News Search & Biases

The Online Journalism Review had a great story today a possible conservative bias to Google News results. The OJR story also looks at how news at Yahoo is produced, as well.

Gary blogged the OJR story today along with a number of other related articles worth reviewing. And I thought it would be interesting to start a thread to discuss bias and issues with news search services in general.

Very interesting, I'll pull a thought out of the article for this thread.

It says in the article that its possible that the main stream (more conservative) papers use the name "Kerry" more often in the title of the article, then would a smaller, less conservative paper. They would not use "John Kerry" in the title, but rather "Kerry" to keep it short. Now if you do a search on John Kerry, you come up with a more balanced news reporting from both sides, as opposed to just searching on "kerry".

That is part of the gist of the article.

Nice find!

There's another thread now on this same topic, so I've closed this one -- please discuss over here: Does Google News have a Conservative Bias?
