Hi,
This is my first time here, and my first post My question is how do you optimize internal links so that your most important keyword page is targeted? |

Right on target...
Right on target...there are lots of ways to optimize internal links for your main keywords.
One of the most important in my eyes is to ensure that your navigation links are text based, and include the keywords you are shooting for. This is just a basic item, but one many people overlook in favor of a pretty menu using images. |

Right on...
At the end of the day, your site is for users...if you focus on clean valid design, using standards, and with all users in mind, and I mean all, not just those using a traditional browser, things will work out well for you.
Anything good takes time, so with solid success building your site, updating it with fresh content when you can, your site will take off. |

Out of curiosity, what is your target market???
Agreed with all above, clean design, users in mind, anchor text but also depending on your target...ive used a recent simple example below with an e-commerce site : On home page, created a little section to show best selling items, to drive up sales, awareness and link value. Top 5 Selling Items 1. keyword / item name £27.50 2. keyword / item name £27.50 3. keyword / item name £27.50 4. keyword / item name £27.50 5. keyword / item name £27.50 Another approach for a content heavy website : Examples of custom designs that have been successfully developed for automotive customers, recent projects include: project 1 project 2 project 3 The intention is to maximise the awareness of pages that otherwise may be missed in the normal navigation. Hope this helps :-) |

target audience and link strategy
My target audience are teachers.
I’m targeting keywords with very little competition. I’m in the process of writing a 100 page article , but after I’m done, I will create sub folders and name them after my target keywords. These sub-folders will contain related articles, and will be heavily linked to each other – hence my original question. I’m not linking these articles for any seo purpose, it's just that these links will make it a lot easier to navigate and it certainly beats hitting the back button .I'm also planning to put other articles with high ranking keyword in the root directory. The reason that I'm doing this is that these articles can't be grouped under a common theme. What do you think? |

Funny you should mention teachers....
I have a client who required me to research a little further into the teacher website market.... Have a look at the sites below, all targeting teachers.... http://www.eteach.com/ http://www.teachers.tv/ http://www.teachnetwork.co.uk/ They are UK sites, generally optimised very well, I'm sure they can be tweaked, but didn't spend that much time on it to make recommendations SEO, but if you look at how the sites are structures, and try to follow suit, I know the sites are doing well in terms of banner advertising....a nice revenue stream for them....hopefully, with good SEO, you can also be in a similar position.... Hope this helps :-) Last edited by Marcia : 06-07-2007 at 04:07 AM. |

Hey Jeff,
No problem, thinking about it, it may be worth trying to set-up a link exchange with them also and other similar sites..... If your content is relevant, there should be no problem from their side.... I would approach the link exchange once all your content is live....and maybe show a little bit of link love back..... 1 more thing, try to ensure you link to and from inner specific pages that directly relate, as opposed to having just a links page full of link etc.... Thanks :-) |
