Hello everyone!
I have been given an odd request, and I need some direction... My manager said that a few years ago, an outside vendor gave a presentation to our company about redesigning our web site. From what I keep hearing, this person had some very interesting web statistics that I really am unsure as to whether it's even possible to attain. These stats include hits, unique visitors, time on site, page views, etc of our competitors. I'm trying to figure out if this guy just made up the information, or if there is really a way to find out things like unique visitors and page views of competitors. Does anyone know of a tool that allows you to view competitors' web stats? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks! *j |

If you are willing to pay $$$, Hitwise gives you some good competitive insight but it's very expensive. There are also free sources such as Alexa as mentioned above but a new site - http://quantcast.com and http://www.compete.com do an even better job of providing some stats.

Between quantcast.com and compete.com, I think that's pretty much everything I was looking for.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction! |

Glad it helped - Quantcast also just released a keyword info product that you might find helpful.

Similar thread on competitive SEO research
Hi, I recall reading a similar thread here in the forum called "Monitoring Your Competitors' SEO Efforts" at http://forums.searchenginewatch.com/...ht=codemonitor
It's not exactly what you asked for but probably supplements what the other sites can do for you Liz |

A couple of other sites
Some other sites for competitive analysis:
Ranking.com - will let you compare rankings of sites within a single open directory category. NetCraft Will show an overall Site Rank (maybe they get that from alexa?). http://toolbar.netcraft.com/site_rep...nginewatch.com Spy Fu tries to make an estimate of daily ad spend for a sponsored search campaign. Also lists some keywords where the domain is highly ranked. http://www.spyfu.com URL Trends URL Trends shows some of the trends for incoming links and search rankings for some domains. Has some nice charts showing trends over the last 12 months. http://www.urltrends.com Key Compete I love this tool. Get a day pass, it's worth it. http://www.keycompete.com/ |

funny someone gave me bad rep points for my reply above.... if it was the original poster I was referring to the other company not yourself.... you need to be careful - the thing about web stats and in some cases the web itself - is not what it seems. I can briefly show someone my site has a 10 PR.... I can play with Alexa and show huge amounts of traffic... I can temporarily 301 redirect a new site into a front page SERP if I already have a site in there...
You need to be careful is what I was saying - not having a shot at you! |

Expensive providers
They might also have had access to Nielsen or Comscore numbers, depending on the size of the firm.
