Google indexed, MSN not indexed

Hello, please help me with these issue:

I have 30 keywords that are indexed by Google and rank well. I tried the same keywords in MSN and I got zero results in the first 100 pages.

I typed my website name in the search box in MSN and I got a result. "Example: amazon" and I got #1 in my domain name.

I suppose that my website is index with MSN because it found my domain, how MSN works? and why my 30 keywords with good ranking in google dont even show up in MSN?

Thank you in advanced

Go to msn and do a backwards link search.
Try this tool:

MSN uses Inktomi for results so start by reading the articles here for optimizing for Inktomi.

MSN and Google use different algorithms and different indices for their results. It's entirely possible to do well in one and not the other, the link AussieWebmaster's post is the first step in seeing how you're doing/what's up with the algorithm for the search engine you're not doing so well in.

Perhaps your optimisation strategy only works/targets Google and isn't broad enough to do well in Yahoo's search results (and Yahoo-cum-Inktomi power MSN's current search results).

Honestly, the answer to your question really is, "MSN uses Inktomi for results".

If your inbound links are better positioned in Google also, if you have a couple of factors missing that Inktomi considers important, if you are using an IP block Inktomi is having trouble with, if, if, if... it happens, expecting anyone to know intuitively without fully exploring your site etc. is giving us way too much credit. We may be good but we are not god-like - contrary to what some may think of their skills.

Have you optimized meta description tags on your pages? because MSN still uses the Inktomi index and Inktomi uses the meta description tag to form the description you see in the SERPs while Google will show a snippet of text from the copy on your pages.

Yes, I got descriptions in the pages.

Let me ask you David, I understand that Yahoo owns Inktomi and MSN uses Inktomi technology to display pages, if I have a problem with yahoo (indexing pages) I am going to have the same problem with MSN ?

Possibly. However, while Yahoo built their search index from Inktomi as well as technology from All The Web and probably Alta Vista as well, I believe they are slightly different beasts. At any rate the way they display the descriptions you see in the search results is different. Yahoo, like Google, will display a snippet of text from your body copy whereas Inktomi displays what is contained in the meta description tag. That is why I asked you if you had meta description tags and if they were optimized to target your key phrases.

On the indexing issue, are seeing any activity from InktomiSlurp and/or YahooSlurp in your log files?

I seem to have read somewhere that if the actual term of the search is in the description then the description is shown if it is not then the body text is... anyone know about this?

I have seen situations where in Google and Yahoo, a meta description tag will be displayed as opposed to a snippet of text from the html copy if it contains a particular search terms that may or may not be represented in the body copy. However, by default, both Google and Yahoo as well as Teoma and Wisenut seem to prefer to form the description in the SERPs by "snipping" some of the html text they index in the page.

So what to do? Make sure you have optimized meta description tags and then also make sure that text is also included in the html body copy as well.

Guess that's why so many people suggest reiterating your description as your opening paragraph!!!!!!
