A warning to those adding their own sites to Wikipedia

Wikipedia is considering working with Google to battle link-spam, and adding your own site to an article IS considered spamming. Read more:

Please note that the above blog includes strong/offensive language in the comments section. A direct link to the discussed Wikipedia section is below:

Yeah, "Google and Wikipedia share a common interest in combatting link-spam," as the entry on the ultimate linked-to page is actually titled. And there might even be a few folks who like the idea (I think I count three). However, I see no mention of anything remotely close to an even watered down, somewhat semi-demi-official "Wikipedia is considering working with Google to battle link-spam" statement.

And, besides my quibbles with the obvious "upscaling" of the situation, the idea itself is basically unworkable, as the discussion of Joe jobs in that entry itself suggests.

Never gonna happen. To easy to spam your competitors in Wiki and get them penalized.

I would agree, if Jimbo Wales had not reacted and apparently takes this serious as well.

At the end of his article Jimbo Wales agree too.

What would you do? Right. Spam the links of your competitors, and get them on that list. If Google would use that, it would probably be among the fastest way to get rid of your competition. So that won’t work. I’ll follow the discussion and see if they come up with something smarter.
