Exclamation All pages same construction, but some keywords gone awol - strange!

All my pages are constructed the same - although not dup content - and though some main keywords are at the top in Google UK eg:
www.allkids.co.uk/toddlers-cotbeds-starter-junior-novelty-and-car-beds.shtml for starter beds,
www.allkids.co.uk/Girls-beds.shtml for girls beds,
www.allkids.co.uk/girls-bedding-character.shtml for girls bedding, etc -

some keywords have just plain plummeted - eg:
www.allkids.co.uk/bunk-beds.shtml for bunk beds,
www.allkids.co.uk/childrens-cabin-beds.shtml for cabin beds,
www.allkids.co.uk/character-bedding-boys.shtml for boys bedding

Why would this be? Can anyone take a look and see if there is an obvious glaring reason, please. It' more frustrating and irritating than anything - just one of those things that I spend far too much time on trying to fathom. If I creat a brand new pages - using the same, old formula - then it usually goes onto the first page - but I can't move some of them for love nor money!!

the only thing that has changed is I sometimes split pages when the content gets too long and rename the original page and create permanent redirects.
Now I know there's been a problem with GG recently - so if it's simply because of this, does anyone have any idea how long before the pages start creeping back in/up again?

cheers and thanks for any feedback

Firstly, having a list of keywords at the top of each page in an almost hidden yellow font is a no no:
"This Page: Bunk Beds - Children's Metal Framed , Wooden, Pine, White, Painted Bunk Beds and Triple Sleepers"

Secondly, I think that it's simply a case of some of the pages being targetted at more competitive terms and the site not being as well optimised as competitors. Although you may be doing well for "girls beds", I didn't know there was such a thing as a girls bed (insert your own joke here) and would certainely not search for it if I had a daughter in need of furnishings. I would however imagine that a lot of people search for bunk beds and that competitors will be actively optimising for such a term.

Things to check:
  • If you had inbound links to the previously named bunk bed URL etc, have they been re-pointed to the new address?
  • Are you sure that the 90's style optimisation currently on the site still works? Maybe the pages doing well are only doing so for another factor such as links or for being less competitve terms.
  • If you've signed the site up to GWC, check to see if Google are finding any errors or spam on the badly performing pages. Maybe it's simply a case of Google finding the new pages spammy according to a recent algo update and not checking the older pages yet for the same thing. Or maybe some kind of old content trust going on.

thanks for the reply Rob - the yellow text is by no means almost hidden on my browser - not against a blue background!! and I've done this on most pages - simply so visitors know immediately what's on that page

Agree that 'bunk beds' is a very competitive phrase, but some of the others that are missing are in the same league as girl's beds ( white or pink beds with hearts and flowers!!) etc .

The 90's style - if that's what it is - certainly does work for most of the time thankyou

No reporting errors in GWC - apart from 404 - not found - pages - mainly ones that are still externally linked to - but are no more!

The pages that are still being indexed OK are being checked more often than the AWOL ones.

and all intenal links have been redirected to the new pages.

like I say it's a bit of a mystery - but thanks for taking the time to look.

anyone else have any ideas?

*anyone else have any ideas?*

The site is a 'thin affiliate" overly dependent on reciprocal links?

don't quite understand this - yes it's mainly an affiliate site - and an information directory with lots of external links - always has been since 1999. and yes I imagine I have some reciprocal links - but it's not something I insist on.

are you saying that some pages have fallen because of this - if being an affiliate site was the cause I would imagine most of the site would have gone - not just a few pages.

It had a white background when I viewed it through Firefox.

Didn't realise the site was also affiliate based, that brings in a whole new set of issues.

*..are you saying that some pages have fallen because of this..*

I was speculating on possible causes, looking at the text only cache you'd think it was a holiday site, and I suspect if you strip out all the third party stuff you'd be surprised at how little original content there actually is.

On the linkage front, loads of reciprocal looking links turn up in "contains the term" results, though interestingly they don't appear to be reciprocated from that site.

If further pages drop I'd suspect you've fallen foul of the post BD linkage quality/original content parameters...

It isn't unusual now for some pages on sites to disappear or lose rankings and not others.

still no further forward with this - but this thread ranks no 26 (google.co.uk)
for the term 'cabin beds'

All pages same construction, but some keywords gone awol - strange!www.allkids.co.uk/childrens-cabin-beds.shtml for cabin beds, www.allkids.co.uk/character-bedding-boys.shtml for boys bedding Why would this be? ...
forums.searchenginewatch.com/showthread.php?t=13317 - 78k - 21 Aug 2006 - Cached - Similar pages

so GG obviously knows Allkids and Cabin Beds belong together - just confused as to how!!!
