Trying to get origin information into salesforce
I work for a small ASP model software company that serves a specific vertical. We have been growing mostly by word of mouth, but now we are looking to promote our web site and start getting more leads from the site.
I mentioned to our VP of sales that I had some SEO experience (mostly natural for personal sites) and now am in charge of SEO/SEM for our site, which is great , but I'm not entireley knowledgable in the ROI, generating leads side of SEO/SEM.Anyways we are looking for a way to get origin information (ie natural or paid result, what keywords, referrrer etc..) into salesforce so we can see on a micro basis, where our best quality leads are coming from. I've thought of possibly setting a cookie when someone comes to our site that tracks their origin and then when they go to one of our 3 "contact us type" pages, the server writes that information in a hidden form that posts to salesforce with the rest of the contact form. I would just create new fields in salesforce. Does anyone know if this would work, any considerations I should take in this, or know of any better/other ways we could get what we are looking for. Also we use Google Analytics(for right now) in case someone knows of a way to pass the info they gather into salesforce. Any help, ideas, suggestions, resources is greatly appreicated. |

I guess you need to track the identity of a visitors through their origin information etc and revert back to them with sales querry, sorry it does not seems ethical to me.

Unethical?
Actually, we only want to track the origin information (which keyword they searched on, that sort of thing) of people who have specifically filled out a form saying that they want us to contact them. We are just trying to figure out where our leads are coming from and which keywords and sites we should spend our advertising budget on.
I'm sorry, but I don't see anything unethical about this. We don't want to track down people that are just visiting our site, we only want to know where the interested people(which we know because they filled out a pretty in-depth form) are coming from on a more granular basis. In my mind it's just like asking a person who contacts us, "Where did you hear about us?". Which is difficult when people come from search engines, since they usually don't remember what phrase they happened to find us through. |
