Which paid directories to list in

I am interested to know what paid directories people find the most useful. If you could only submit to 10 directories what would they be? My list is below:

1. Yahoo Directory
2. Business.com
3. info-listings.com
4. Microsoft bCentral
5. Skaffe
6. GoGuides
7. Tygo
8. Joeant
9. Best of the Web
10. Albilogic

RCM, there have been a ton of threads on this topic, some very recent, so I'd suggest doing a search and you'll come up with them.

Tygo? Does this deliver any traffic to you?

Hello, I am reading here about a suggestion to submit to the Tygo directory. I had never heard of it before now. I see they charge $39.95. Do you get traffic from this directory; is it worth the price? Thanks.

brownelf, once you drill down into categories, you have to check to see if the page has PR and/or is cached by Google. It's not necessarily the best or only indicator, but it's definitely somethng I'd look at before paying anything. Often pages will seem to have PR and be cached & indexed, until you go to Page 2 of the category and then that page most often will not be.

OK, now maybe for some categories and pages (although I would *not* expect any traffic) *possibly*, but one of the ones I usually check for is the wedding category in shopping (or apparel, jewelry, etc. - popular consumer goods) and the second page for weddings there has no PR and isn't cached.

I do get some traffic from Tygo, but what I have noticed recently is that Google has indexed many backlinks from Tygo.

Have you looked at the pages they're linked on, whether they're cached and/or showing pagerank? And are they the "first" pages for the category, or further in?

Marcia,

To be honest, I have not looked that deep into the page which is picked up as a backlink. My first priority is to verify that the backlinks I am receiving are coming from relevant sites, whether that is from a directory which has a category directly on point, or another web site which has a similar topic to that of my site.

What I do before I submit to an area on Tygo or any directory for that matter is, first find the 3 or 4 most relevant categories, then compare each as to the PR, if the page is indexed in Yahoo and Google, and finally, how many other sites are in the category, which gives me a good indication of whether my link is likely to appear on the first page of the section or if it will be buried deep, where the pages may not have PR.

Good pointers, RCM, very nice post!

I also look around to see if they're running advertising on the site, and if so, who the links go to. It's a "neighborhood" kind of thing.

Mod note: Newcomers, we've already had to remove some URL drops, so if you want to post a link to your new directory, this isn't the place.
