Should I submit to paid directory

Can anyone help. I want to boost MY PR and traffic by submitting my site to various directories which offer paid inclusion. Is this a useful strategy? Is this risky? is it worth it?
If yes which directory should I look at considering my business is based in the UK.

Thanks in advance

Paid directories are a useful part of a link building strategy. I'd look first at the major ones such as Yahoo, Microsoft SBD, and Business.com. These all pass nice link juice and have decent direct traffic as well.

There are hundreds (at least) of directories selling links (I mean, reviews). Most are not worth the time it takes to submit, but doing a few each month can be worthwhile.

Make sure the page you're submitting to is in Google's index. If Google doesn't know about the link, it ain't gonna do you any good.

Don't worry about PageRank on the page you're submitting to, but a decent PageRank on the homepage might suggest that the directory is not a fly-by-night.

Make sure your site gets reviewed and linked. I've had submissions disappear into the ether, been unable to reach anyone via email, and had to contest my PayPal transaction. So far, they've all been cleared up at that point, however.

My favorite are directories that give you a homepage link as well as several keyword stuffed deep links. Makes my eyes misty just thinking about it...

Niche and national directories brings nice traffic for all my domains. General directories and "free seo directories" gives less or no traffic (depends about category).
