Real SEO success and how to obtain it

Hi,

My name is Moshe and this is my first time posting to the forum (I hope that I posting in the right sub-forum). I thought I'd start my first post with two questions that I personally find interesting (hope you do too):

First question: What does it mean to be an online success?

Let me explain this question: there are certain aspects of search engine marketing that I really enjoy and others that I (shall we say) less than enjoy (let's face it, computers can be more than frustrating at times). At times I ask myself is this what I want to be doing all day long and at other times it's a pleasure. This says to me that online success is dictated by more than just making money online, it also involves such issues as why does one want to make money and does one enjoy making that money. What do other people think? What goes into their definition of being an online success.

Second question: What qualities does a person need to succeed online?

Again, I'll elaborate. Unfortunately, there are all these offers promising people that they can just site at home, play with the dog and watch t.v. while their computer goes out and makes them a million dollars. I, for one, do not know of any such success stores. All the people I know who are successful in this industry work hard for that success. So hard work is one quality, patience, I think, is another (results take time). I think good social skills (ironically enough) at times may be another as networking offline can help contribute to ones success online. There are, I believe other qualities. What do other people think, what qualities are necessary to being successful online.

Well, there's my first post. Hope you enjoy it.

All the best,

Moshe

It's all about goals and how you define the word success or successful.

Define your own goals and when you've reached them then you're successful. If your goal is to get more vistors to your web site (perhaps your goal is 10,000 visitors a day) and you reach that goal then you're successful.

If your goal is to make $100,000 from your web site every year and you reach that goal then you're successful.

Everyone has different goals and different interpretations of the word success. I would define your own goals and if you reach them you're a success.

Defining success

I think that there are other variables that one needs to consider when defining success. For instance, how much time, effort (physical and emotional), and money does it cost someone to obtain their goal. Remember, time and effort are also commodities, and one can obtain their target for their marketing campaign and still not be successful if it cost them too much. For instance, let's say that someone earns $100,000.00 a year, but has to work 80+ hour weeks to a week in order to achieve that goal. If they don't think that the trade off is worth it then perhaps they are not successful. Maybe they would rather make $60,000.00 and only work 50 hours/week. In other words, we shouldn't just look at success as only how much money we had to spend to obtain our goal, but also how much time, effort and other such values that we had to achieve our goal.

I point this out because I think that sometimes people get lured into to the world wide web by its financial promise without realizing its side costs.

Hi Moshe,

I believe success in this case is subjective. You can call your web campaign or an online shop a success if you have obtained profits and better return on investment.

Of course time is also a cost, even more expensive than the tangibles, IMO.

Online success to me is gaining something from your online business while setting it robust and scalable enough to ensure its sustainability. Since the web has been evolving, online success to me is defined as the adaptability to such changes without compromising goals and targets.
