Autoresponders: Free vs Paid

Hello. I'm about to start implementing capturing email addresses for follow-up marketing. Of course I would need an autoresponder for this. Do I really have to pay for autoresponders? Could I just use the free autoresponders being offered and expect to see very little difference in my marketing success? Thank you very much again in advance.
