SERP description not what's on the site

I have never come across this before.

We just changed the title tag on a site and noticed a description snipet that Google picked up is not anywhere on the page - see blow. They don't have this sentence anywhere on their site so what gives? and how do we change it....

Check the ODP listing, it might be coming from that.

They are not on ODP nor are they in Yahoo directory.

Exactly right. And no meta description tag. If you want to stop this from happening you need to do 2 things - first create a meta description tag of up to 155 or so characters or so that says what you want it to say, then add another tag like this:
<meta name=”robots” content=”noodp”>

This approach will clear thing up pretty quickly.

Re: SERP description not what's on the site

Thanks so much John W. I did look around in ODP and somehow I missed it.

I'll try to request a change even though there's a faint hope of it getting changed. Worth a try though because this is a truly not what they do.

thanks again

Re: SERP description not what's on the site

if you use the noodp tag it will stop it and use your description tag - so you don't have to get them to change it
