Broad match conudrum

I have a client with broad match keyword 'French Riviera Honeymoon'.

I ran a query report and found that the following keywords had triggered and ad and a click

- Italian Riviera Vacation
- Paris Vacation

I think that's a stretch and so does my client.

What do you think?

Re: Broad match conudrum

it could be seen as a stretch. Users may be searching for vacations in that part of the world and just aren't sure yet on what type or where they want to go yet. If they're in this investigative/research phase of the buying cycle, then it's not so bad. If they're already set on the type/destination of their vacation, then it's probably a waste.

If you want to prevent your client's site from showing up for those terms, you can either set the match type to exact match and phrase match and/or set up negative match terms containing -italian and -paris.

Re: Broad match conudrum

I would start with phrase match possibly and work out other terms... use keyword suggest tool

Re: Broad match conudrum

This is the same thing I was talking about over here:

Google, What Happened to Do No Evil?

I saw it as a huge money grab on Google's part and I felt that they were taking advantage of people's lack of understanding of the exact terminology that different advertising venues use.

I think your best bet (for now) is to do what Aussiewebmaster has suggested and set everything to phrase match and build your list outward, rather than going the opposite direction and trying to garner the most amount of traffic possible and constrain that list inwards. Which is essentially the position you are in now.
