First Page Estimate

Hi

I have a very perplexing issue.

I have several keywords that adsense is saying that I need to raise the maximum bid to £0.50 from its current £0.25 level to be on the first page.

However when I do a search for that keyword using google no ads appear on any pages

Any ideas why this might be the case. Because no ads appear I would have thought that I could bid 1p and get an add showing.

Cheers

Hello albertramsbottom - please see the following page from the AdWords Help Center, which will hopefully shed some light on this rather common misconception:

* Why is my first page bid high if there are no ads showing?

Quoting that page, minus the many active links that the page contains if you follow the link above:

Quote:
The number of ads showing on a particular keyword makes up only part of that keyword's first page bid estimate. First page bid is also determined by Quality Score, which is a dynamic variable assigned to each keyword in your account depending on a number of relevance factors.

The higher your keyword's Quality Score, the lower the cost-per-click (CPC) bid needed to win any particular position, whether on the first page or any other results page. The reverse is also true: the lower the Quality Score, the higher the bid needed to win a particular position. This system is in place to help ensure that the most relevant ads show for each search query.

Here's a list of factors that make up Quality Score, which in turn helps determine your keyword's first page bid:

* The historical clickthrough rate (CTR) of the keyword and the matched ad on Google
* Your account history, which is measured by the CTR of all the ads and keywords in your account
* The historical CTR of the display URLs in the ad group
* The quality of your landing page
* The relevance of the keyword to the ads in its ad group
* Your account's performance in the geographical region where the ad will be shown
* Other relevance factors

If you'd like to lower your first page bid, we recommend that you work on improving your Quality Score through account optimization.
For further information, a dozen or so other useful topics on the the broad subject of first page bid estimates may be found here:

I hope this info will help clear things up a bit.
