Another seven don’ts for SEO

1. Don’t give your customers high expectation. We all know that if you have more expectations on one thing, you will get more disappointments when you lose it. So, just do your work humbly and diligently. It also can make your customers to praise you.
2. Don’t neglect analysis. All the data are an important part for SEO work.
3. Don’t always think it’s right for what your customers said.
4. Don’t make them to be your partners who you dislike them.
5. Unless you are really sure your answer is correct. Otherwise, don’t give customers the answer which you didn’t verify it.
6. Don’t mix SEO and marketing. Yes, you can tell them that SEO can bring more high quality hits to them, and it can drive sales. But SEO can’t make hits into money directly.
7. Never relax yourself. This technology develops very quickly. You may miss great changes only in a few days. So, you should spend more time on industry news and development for yourself and your customers.

I think the ultimate goal of SEO is marketing. You do have to work with your clients and keep your eyes on marketing. SEO can be very expensive and traffic is expensive. So, if you don't drive enough traffic and turn it into dollars, your clients will not be able to keep paying you.

Most clients only care about renenue. If they are making money by hiring you, they don't care about rankings. So, every SEO campaign has to be integrated into the whole marketing strategy.

Re: Another seven don’ts for SEO

See there is a major rift here but in some aspects we are talking at cross purposes.

SEO is not a direct marketing tool... the content on the page we optimize can be marketing - well crafted text to convince someone to buy.

And in some aspects it is marketing - when we choose the title tags and descriptions it should be with keywords in mind but also messaging that will promote clicks - afterall a top 10 listing is no good if no one clicks on it because of the gibberish seen in the listing.

SEO is also a marketing decision for companies - you are doing it to generate more traffic which is the purpose of marketing.

Re: Another seven don’ts for SEO

SEO definitely is done for marketing but to treat SEO as marketing can ruin the results for you. because at any point you cant start direct promotion in SEO and have to adopt the gradual path.
