Weird MSN problem

I have a site that's over 2 years old. Ranks in top 10 for most of the keywords in Yahoo and some in Google. No black hat, spam, ad sense, etc. Up until a month ago we were banned on MSN for no apparent reason. I e-mailed them, opened a case and after two months and numerous e-mails it now shows up when I search site:www.mysite.com The problem is that it doesn't show up for any of the keywords at all, even for our domain name (although 7 pages of links show up when you search for domain name). MSNBot comes by at least every couple of days and MSN support sent e-mail suggesting checking my robots.txt file (which is correct). Any ideas anyone? Does it take some time to start ranking for keywords once you are unbanned? I am not expecting to get a ton of traffic from MSN, but I'd love to get to the bottom of it to see that maybe there is something wrong with the site that could help Google rankings....

I'm not sure about any post-ban circumstance, but for MSN tips in general check out this thread:

Found a customer service e-mail somewhere on their site. They unbanned it eventually after 2-3 e-mails (2 months) and now another 3 or 4 e-mails later and 3 month later the site started appearing in the search for some of the keywords.

MSN Banned

I am facing the same thing as you did,

I know got in touched with them using MSN Support site under Search department,

An MSN dude send me a mail which I think may be a template since
it asked to to set my site according to SEO guidelines, what a joke

If it really visited my site, he would have told me otherwise.

I re-asked him to remove the banned,

these MSN dudes are really something, they must have a smart bot which answers auto. replies to ex-convicts sites

I kept getting the same canned answer to follow the guidelines, but I was persistent enough and finally they've re-included the site. It took 3 or 4 e-mails and they would respond to them after a week or two.

MSN Response

Hey Amigo,

Guess what they have just returned a third response (all correspondence took me less than 48 hours) they are fast!!!

The MSN dude claimed:

"I have now forwarded your concern to the MSN Search Product Specialist Team so it may be given due attention."

I'll update when I'll have more results...

This Topic is a must for all the Tech. Dudes which got their site kicked of by the redmond giant

Question

Same happened to me too back in Mid-May - have sent several emails to support and received about 3 back - all clever responses that have just not really read my emails..

I keep getting an MSN dude called Joan!! my site has been in msn for 5-6 years and had top 10 traffic on car insurance for the last 2 or 3 years then bang! it all went in may this year.

Any advice? Do I just keep writing??

Maybe worth a few of us comparing sites as there maybe a common denominator...

Cheers
Ade

I can help

Hey Amigo,

I think I can assist, you need to send email to webspam@microsoft.com

This is a special address to people which their site reported as spam,

I wrote them too ( a week ago) although they have yet to reponse,

I would write them that "I suspect that my web site was incorrectly identified as spam."

and explain that your site contribute to the community & so forth

Hope you'll get your rank back
Best Wishes
Uri

Wow that was quick!!

Thanks for the info man, I have emailed them at this address - it's really the only logical answer as I have never used any sort of bad methods for gaining visitors, just simple housekeeping and new content!

Will keep you posted....

Thanks

Don't give up

hey,

I did so myself, the first thing I saw was MSNBot crawling more often
on my site. I also didn't receive any answer but from what I understood
the waiting period could be weeks.

the only thing certain in SEs is consistency pays off

I'll keep you updated on any progress

Had a reply from MSN Spam Team. They said:

Your site is acquiring links through posting to or exchanging links with sites unrelated to your site content. Techniques which attempt to acquire unrelated spam links in order to increase ranking are considered spam and your site has been excluded from our index as results. Please contact us once you've removed these links and we will reevaluate.
