Links from servers in IP ranges
We have the opportunity to receive links from some major heavy-hitter sites but these sites garner so much traffic that they use a range of IPs.
Will this lower the weight of the links since there is not one IP from which this site can be accessed? Thanks. |

I'm not very sure, but as far as I know, google considers inbound Links for a higher Ranking/PR.
And, Link = Domain I believe. Almost every webserver has more than one IP and every domain is pointed to more than one DNS. Hence, IP should not be the problem here. But thats just me, I might be wrong. |

Weight of a Link
If you are able to get links from some heavy hitters on the Internet, it could be very well worth it. The IP situation with these sites is rare because the sites can be accessed from different IPs. In most cases from what I have experienced the weight of the links will still be very effective as long as the site is looked upon as an authority site by Google. If they have high amounts of unique and quality content, natural inbound links and the site is updated frequently the links should be effective. In this situation I would take the opportunity and cease the links as long as the sites are not banned or penalized in Google.

I would suggest that you take all the links from sites like this that you can get. I would not worry about the IP address at all.
Links from this type of site are valuable in my experience and I really doubt that the freshness of the page, the authority status of the site or the extent and topic of the content have much to do with the value of the link.

So far as I understand it, the IP range only becomes an issue where cross-linking is concerned - namely, that cross-linking within the same /24 IP range *may* result in those cross-links being devalued as less than cross-linking across different IP ranges.
However, if the sites in question are already doing this, then any such devaluation I should think applies only to the way that their sites are cross-linked, and shouldn't directly impact the effectiveness to outbound links to a third-party site. Just my 2c. |
