Managing Facebook accounts
This is a problem with ALL social media accounts, however my specific issue and request for help is regarding Facebook.
Virtually all social media accounts on FB, Twitter, Google and so on are based upon an individual user. You must have a unique profile/name, verified email and all in order to set up an account, and in the case of Facebook in order to advertise there. This model does not fit in well with a marketing agency, nor a major company attempting to conduct multiple marketing campaigns for different products/depts/services etc. Celebs and paid endorsements aside you should never tie an employees personal identity to a corporate account. This is not a clean model. Social media sites need an agency account function so that companies that require multiple accounts for each brand can do so efficiently and according to the guidelines set by all parties, FB TOS and the Companies own HR policies. One specific issue as an example. We set up a Facebook account using a fictitious name in order to set up marketing for a site that we administer. We can't use the client's name as they aleady an account, we can't use one of our employees names as it would violate HR policies and well they all have their own identies already anyhow. So we created an imaginary person. Turns out the name we came up with is as popular as the Jonas brothers, WITH 12 Year old girls in Idaho! We have had over 30 friend requests from teeny bopper girls in less than a few days. Totally inappropriate for the service, and honestly SHOCKING that these girls are connecting with a total stranger and posting their picts. Not sure if these profiles are fakes, a scam, a trap or what and I don't care.. We want to block anyone with a profile for a minor from attempting to friend us or otherwise engage with us on FB. But we cant.

Re: Managing Facebook accounts
This is a problem for all brand owners, and it shows just one more aspect of how Facebook has tried to rope in ad revenues but is doing so really half-assedly.
We're raised the issue with Facebook a number of times. As of now, individuals must manage the brand / company pages. The only solution to get away from having a single employee associated with a corporate identity is to have multiple admins for the corporate page. As for the billing system, it does remain with individuals and is tied to the individual's Facebook id. This is really bad for small & medium sized businesses that are spending less than £1,000 per day. Hopefully, they'll change this sooner rather than later. |

Re: Managing Facebook accounts
interesting how Facebook now has more pageviews than Google - ClickZ did a good article answering things about the Facebook inbox
