Using & in Meta Title
I have been studying different meta titles. Noticed that most sites that use & in the title display as & in the page source.
First question: does this count as 1 or 4 characters in the meta title character count? Second question: if it counts as 4 is there a way to reduce it to 1? I noticed that Barnes & Noble sets up their use of & in a different manner. Thanks |

Re: Using & in Meta Title
Spiders checks the code and it will look like 4 characters in title
Quote:
As well if you use "&" as a character in the code in any cases if you generate a feed for your site then the XML treats "&" as an invalid character. Quote:

Re: Using & in Meta Title
Are you sure about using "n" in place of and? Do a search for "Bar & gameroom" and you get all sorts of relevant sites. Then search for "Bar n gameroom". Google seems to be connecting the floating "n" to the previous word and returns you lots of results for Barns.

Re: Using & in Meta Title
If you use "&" for keyword then you don't have an option and if you go for sound you can have "n". If searches increases for the keyword “n” Google would provide you with "+" operator option for popular keywords. You may try "B n B" and find results for and / & but the results won't be more compared to “&”. Few people have been using and spiders are on the way to fix the odds

Re: Using & in Meta Title
I assume you're asking because you're trying to keep your title from getting too long? Truthfully, I wouldn't worry about it. I've started using the | between my keywords for appearance. SEOmoz says it doesn't appear to matter.
