Open Question: Currency & Adwords International Traffic.
Has anyone experienced this, or knows of any cases:
Discrepancy $US vr other currencies in ADWORDS. I've been told by a client that he ran all his international campaigns in a $US account. (He's in Canada) He claims for the exact same budget and GEO-TARGETS in $CDN, that he experienced as much as 15% decrease in performance in the $CDN account. He switched back to the US account, siting cheaper clicks. Whether this is true or not. Is very significant, because frankly if it means working in $US dollars saves you 15%. Its 15% more value in your pocket! I have never heard or bumped into this issue before. I do know some of you are running international accounts, and may wish to test this theory. Searchengineman |

interesting... since usd is base all conversions are better in that currency

To rank ads on an SRP Adwords needs the ability to do currency converions, because in general ads from all types of currency accounts can be competing.
Since ad ranking is done in realtime the Adwords currency exchange rates need to be up to date. I would love to know more about the Adwords does this and the impact of this on bid prices and ranking. We've mention before in this Forum the possibility of using Adwords to play games with Foreign Exchange. It gives the term Google Arbitrage a whole new meaning ;-) |

Maybe it's just Amex or MC or Visa taking their fee when exchanging currencies. If his CC is in USD and he is paying in USD, he would not pay the same as if he was paying CAD. But that's not Google charging more, it's the fee cards charge to exchange money. I'm Canadian and I got myself a USD card to pay for all USD expenses - it's well worth it if you have USD revenue.
