How many words can one have on a single page before Google will ignore it?

I am wondering if there is a "breaking point" where Google will start to ignore the words on a page after a certain point? For instance, if one has a page that has 30,000 words on it, will Google look at all those words and index them or will it start to ignore them after a point? Stop looking at word 12,256...?

I doubt there is any exact defined number but would be interested in thoughts and opinions.

Check out this page:

http://www.electricminds.org/venice/...=22&p1=0&p2=-1

Solidly indexed and cached at Google with about 139,000 words. Pages like this IMO are not recommended, but evidently a page can be pretty big.

Wow, great example, John. Not sure if I've ever seen a page that large in the index.

There's a very well-known site which has pages of 50,000 links. They have several hundred thousand links to get indexed, and they start a new page every 50,000 links. Google is apparently OK with this.

Google doesn't seem to be bothered at all by long text documents. You can put a whole book on one web page, as Project Gutenberg does, and Google will happily index it.

I don't know about a limit - it is nice to hear that there are some very long pages out there. But there is a decrease in relevancy and weight as keywords are further and further down the page.

I believe Google will read absolutely every words on a page. No limits. However, Google give more importance to keywords at the top of the page, therefore having keywords at the bottom of a very very long page will not have a real impact for the page.

In fact this page is not indexed, and it is not cached at all (scroll all page, it is interrupted), the single post pages (permalinks) are indexed. Try to search a phrase contained in the long page and the result will be single posts/permalink. Google don't like very long pages, don't cache/index all.

Looks like it is still indexed, has TBPR, but apparently G re-indexed this page in Sept. and now like ermit points out, it is only partly cached. odd.

Good question on table Troy, as everyone says you will be successfull on your n number of words which contains fresh content

If the content is fresh and has enough information, you are on go...
