Link Building Via Blog Comments : Is It Spamming Or Not?

Like any other ‘minor’ link building - blog commenting is also useful. Because of how blog comment spam has arisen, the search engines are most likely to develop (or to be developing) ways to filter good comments from spammy ones.

So an important question arises: “If I build links via blog commenting - do I look like a spammer?” Read more here

Re: Link Building Via Blog Comments : Is It Spamming Or Not?

I think the biggest piece to this is are you adding value to the conversation? That is, after all, what blog comments are supposed to be; an extension to the post on the blog that evolves into a conversation between users. Comments also encourage others to come and see your blog (if that is the URL you leave in your comment signature) and increase dialogue that way. Comments like "Thanks for posting" don't add value. They are obviously SPAM. My advice is this:

Only make comments on posts that are relevant to your subject matter (unless your blog is about everything, then it's fair game). Make a comment that is well thought out and adds value to what has already been said. Directly respond to other comments if applicable. Be genuine and transparent and don't comment on every post in a single blog. It's a waste of time and sure to send up red flags.

So long as you add value to the conversation and use your real name instead of some kind of anchor text, commenting on blogs is fine. While the main purpose should not be to build links but rather to interact with the original post, in the process you will build links as well.

Re: Link Building Via Blog Comments : Is It Spamming Or Not?

I've been doing a ton of comment linking lately. Here is my blog/forum linking strategy guide.

Which blogs/forums to link from. Only one withous nofollow tags.
Don't waste your time commenting where nofollow is applied. There are pleanty without nofollow.

The higher the page rank of the blog/forum the more links you want from it OR the more you want to focus on your profile link.

If a blog/forum has a low PR just one link, once in a while is fine.

If a blog has a very high PR you should get 2 kinds of links from it if possible. The first is normal anchor text links keywords in the link text. The second is your profile link. Every post you make in certain blogs contributes to your profile's page rank. You have your website on your profile so eventually you'll get a very powerful link from the profile page to your website (big PR boost).

The Admin's profile here at searchenginewatch forums is a great example of what I'm talking about.

Hello MR Wallace good to see you active after a long time. What would happen if I put in the name of my company with a link to my website, provided that the comment that I post is genuine. Will it be termed as spammed advertisement.Or may be I could post a link to my blog that discuss related subject.
