Google Trends Adds Trending Charts, 30 Days of Hot Searches

Google Trends has updated the Top Charts to show what's trending by search volume and compared to normal search volume. You can also now see hot searches for the past 30 days, and the explore page has gotten a bit of a search makeover.

Google Trends is a great tool for webmasters and business owners to spot trends and devise a marketing strategy, or just to discover different things that are happening that they might not otherwise realize was trending. Because of the popularity of trends, Google has added some new ways for searchers to explore things that are trending on Google.

Back in May, Google Trends got a new feature called Top Charts, which was a real-time way to explore people, places, and things ranked by overall search interests. It is only available in the U.S., but more countries will be available soon. Google has updated the Top Charts to be able to show not only what’s trending by search volume, but what is also increasing compared to usual search volume.

Google Trends Countries and Regions

As an example, the U.S. is the most searched country by users in the U.S. However, if you look closer, you’ll discover that both Syria and Russia were top two trending countries last month. To access the trending feature, simply click the arrow icon on the applicable Top Charts.

Google Trends Hot Searches Past 30 Days

Another new feature they’ve added is a new view of 30 days of hot searches. You can click a calendar, and find out what was hot on each particular day, for any of the 13 countries in which Google supports this feature. You can then also get further information for each of the trends by hovering over the topic, as well as by clicking a link to get all the search trends from that day.

Finally, the explore page has gotten a bit of a search makeover, with users now having the ability to search data for any topic, and then use it to compare how it trends by region, time, category, as well as more data specific breakdowns. They’ve also made the interface very similar to Google search, so that the search parameter options are now in the top navigation.
